Top Places to go Shopping in Great Yarmouth
The seaside town of Great Yarmouth has plenty of shops, both on Regent Road, in the Market Gates shopping centre, and on its Market Days. Here’s a list of the top places to go shopping in Great Yarmouth.
Great Yarmouth Market
One of England’s oldest markets, Great Yarmouth’s market is also one of the largest in England with approximately 5400m of pedestrianised market space. There are two kinds of market in the area – Great Yarmouth’s permanent covered market, which is open Monday to Saturday every week and features a variety of takeaway food, grocery stalls, and stalls selling household items – and the pop-up market, which takes places on Wednesdays and Saturdays (and often Fridays in the summer) that sell a wide range of goods. There are also a number of high street shops surrounding the market, including Norfolk and Suffolk department store Palmers, so there’s plenty to see and shop!
A covered shopping mall in the heart of Great Yarmouth, Market Gates is home to a number of well-known chain shops, including Boots, Debenhams, and Bon Marche. There are also charity shops, independent stores, and a number of places to grab a bite to eat, including Starbucks, Burger King, and Chopstix.
A pedestrianised road taking you straight from the centre of Great Yarmouth to its beautiful and vibrant seafront, Regent Road has everything in-between to browse. With 2 rock factories on the road where you can see classic seaside rock being made through windows to both Docwras Rock Factory and Potters Rocky Factory, and a variety of quirky and independent shops, including variety store Martyn’s, Regent Road is definitely worth a visit – you might even pick up a bargin!
Just off the Great Yarmouth high street is Victoria Arcade. Built in 1925 by B G Beech, a local builder, the arcade was opened in 1926 as ‘Central Arcade’. It was modernised in 1987 and renamed to what it is today. There are independent retailers and services inside, ranging from contemporary fashion shops to florists to photography – and there’s also places to eat.
