Entertainment in Norwich

Norwich has 2 chain cinemas showing popular films throughout the day to choose from: the Vue cinema within the city’s Castle Mall shopping centre, and an Odeon cinema located on the river at Norwich’s Riverside Entertainment complex. Both fantastic choices, pick your favourite and indulge in the silver screen! The Vue cinema is closest to Norwich’s Bus Station whereas the Odeon is close to the train station. Both have ample parking available in the Castle Mall car park and Riverside multi-storey respectively.
Cinema City, Norwich’s independent cinema, does show some popular culture films but also shows documentaries, foreign, and independent films. The building within which Cinema City resides is a Grade I listed building, and is owned by Norwich City Council. This cinema is perfect for a truly cultural experience, and is ideally located in between both the city’s bus station and train station, just a 10-minute walk from each!
With 5 theatres, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to live performance! Next door to the city’s intu Chapelfield is Norwich Theatre Royal, one of the East of England’s largest theatres. Having staged performances for over 250 years, the theatre features West End shows including musicals and dramas, as well as a wide variety of dance, comedy, opera and music! On the smaller slide is Norwich Playhouse. With just 300 seats, this intimate theatre has a broad range of shows throughout the year from all over the world. One of the best comedy venues in East Anglia, the theatre also hosts a range of music stars, drama productions and more! Maddermarket Theatre has been putting on productions since 1921, and today hosts 12 in-house plays a year. With 3 performance areas (the main auditorium, the Emmerson Studio Theatre, and the Redwell Maddermarket Bar and Gallery) you have the choice of something different, as each area is unique and hosts different productions throughout the day and evening. As well as housing the city’s Odeon cinema, Riverside Entertainment is also home to Hollywood Bowl. With a bar and restaurant, you can enjoy a bite to eat whilst enjoying a game or two of bowling!
