Entertainment in Norwich

As well as its rich culture and fantastic shopping opportunities, the entertainment in Norwich is also worth experiencing! The Fine City benefits from 3 cinemas, 5 theatres, and a Riverside Entertainment complex – and these are all within easy reach of the city centre! Whether you’re driving or taking the train or bus, you’ll find Norwich’s entertainment easily accessible from any mode of transport, making an entertainment in Norwich simple.

When looking for entertainment in Norwich, consider Riverside Entertainment, opposite the train station.

Norwich has 2 chain cinemas showing popular films throughout the day to choose from: the Vue cinema within the city’s Castle Mall shopping centre, and an Odeon cinema located on the river at Norwich’s Riverside Entertainment complex. Both fantastic choices, pick your favourite and indulge in the silver screen! The Vue cinema is closest to Norwich’s Bus Station whereas the Odeon is close to the train station. Both have ample parking available in the Castle Mall car park and Riverside multi-storey respectively.

Cinema City, Norwich’s independent cinema, does show some popular culture films but also shows documentaries, foreign, and independent films. The building within which Cinema City resides is a Grade I listed building, and is owned by Norwich City Council. This cinema is perfect for a truly cultural experience, and is ideally located in between both the city’s bus station and train station, just a 10-minute walk from each!

With 5 theatres, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to live performance! Next door to the city’s intu Chapelfield is Norwich Theatre Royal, one of the East of England’s largest theatres. Having staged performances for over 250 years, the theatre features West End shows including musicals and dramas, as well as a wide variety of dance, comedy, opera and music! You can see What’s On at the theatre on their website here.

On the smaller slide is Norwich Playhouse. With just 300 seats, this intimate theatre has a broad range of shows throughout the year from all over the world. One of the best comedy venues in East Anglia, the theatre also hosts a range of music stars, drama productions and more! Opened in 1995, the Playhouse is a fantastic place to see something a little different from the norm. Find out what’s on here.

Maddermarket Theatre has been putting on productions since 1921, and today hosts 12 in-house plays a year. With 3 performance areas (the main auditorium, the Emmerson Studio Theatre, and the Redwell Maddermarket Bar and Gallery) you have the choice of something different, as each area is unique and hosts different productions throughout the day and evening. You can find out more and about What’s On on their website here.

There is also Norwich Puppet Theatre and Sewell Barn Company, both of which have a more niche market.  You can find out more about by visiting their websites: Puppet Theatre Norwich and Sewell Barn Company.
